Become a Freemason

To become a Freemason you must ask a Master Mason to join.

Despite popular opinion, Freemasons are not a Secret Society. How obvious does it have to be – you are on our website which is full of names, photographs, phone numbers and addresses. The existence of our Fraternity is not, nor has it ever been, a secret.

However, while the moral and upstanding behavior of a Freemason may stand him out from the crowd, there may be no other way to identify him as a Freemason. Indeed, some Freemasons wear a ring, a hat, place emblems on their vehicle, or display their admiration for the Fraternity in many other ways. Though not everybody does.

Because of that, you may have a difficult time knowing whether or not, just by looking, if a man purports himself to be a Freemason.

“No institution was ever raised on a better principle or more solid foundation…”

Know this: There is never any harm in asking a man “Are you a Freemason?”

If per chance, you are interested in joining the Fraternity but you do not personally know a Freemason then

head over to our Lodge Locator.  You may petition any lodge you wish to petition for membership.

Another consideration may be when a lodge meets. The majority of the lodges in Arkansas hold their business (and other meetings) on Saturday's. However, other lodges meet on Tuesday’s or Thursday’s. Indeed, the only days that Freemasons in Arkansas attempt to avoid at Sunday’s and Wednesday’s.

Although your frequent appearance at our regular meetings is earnestly solicited, yet it is not meant that Masonry should interfere with your necessary vocations, for these are on no account to be neglected…”

Once you have selected a lodge to petition, contact their Secretary and express your interest to join. That simple action will begin the process.

 What Can You Expect?

  1. Nobody should ever ask you if you would like to become a Freemason. It is up to you to request to join.

  2. Should you need to speak with someone you have never met about your desire to join, do not be nervous. Your interest in joining also sparks an interest within the man you are speaking with.

  3. Expect to ask questions.

Do not worry about asking some questions of your own. Of course there are limitations to what we might be able to say to you at this juncture, but we can likely answer your questions to your satisfaction.

  4. Expect to be asked questions. This shouldn’t surprise you. They are not difficult questions. We desire to do our best to ensure that your standards are inline with our standards.

  5. Expect it to take time.

"For Example: If you turn in your petition for membership in January then in the Lodge will consider your petition in February. If accepted, an Investigative Committee will be assigned to speak with you during the month of February (See bullets #3 & 4 above). The Investigative Committee will report back to the lodge. The lodge will vote on your petition at the same monthly meeting. Your Initiation can then take place anytime after that March meeting."
